5G-The Future

 

The future depends upon connectivity. From artificial intelligence and self-driving cars to telemedicine and mixed reality, augmented reality to as yet undreamt technologies, all the things we hope will make our lives easier, safer, and healthier will require high-speed, always-on internet connections.

To keep up with the explosion of new connected gadgets and vehicles, not to mention the deluge of streaming video, the mobile industry has introduced something called 5G—so named because it's the fifth generation of wireless networking technology.

The promise is that 5G will bring speeds of around 10 gigabits per second to your phone. That's more than 600 times faster than the typical 4G speeds on today’s mobile phones, and 10 times faster than Google Fiber's standard home broadband service—fast enough to download a 4K high-definition movie in 25 seconds, or to stream several at the same time.Eventually anyway while US carriers have introduced 5G networks in dozens of cities, the first ones aren’t nearly that fast.

At first many carriers began rolling out 5G by building atop their 4G or LTE networks, which produced lots of connectivity, but not at the speeds most associated with 5G

The Race for 5G Dominance

The US has been keen to claim a leadership role in worldwide 5G deployment, but so far it hasn’t fully succeeded. China-based Huawei is the world’s leading maker of 5G network equipment, and while its equipment is deployed widely, the company has faced scrutiny from western nations for its alleged ties to the Chinese government. The Trump administration is intent on keeping Huawei technology out of American networks, and earlier this year the US Department of Justice accused the company of conspiring to steal American trade secrets.

The Future of 5G

Now, after years of promises and years of waiting, 5G is finally arriving in consumers’ pockets. The US Federal Communications Commission has held several auctions for 5G spectrum. In August the Trump administration said it will sell off more sections of the mid-band spectrum to spur 5G adoption.

Internet of Things (IoT)

 

The phrase “Internet of Things” in 1999 presentation – and it has stuck around ever since was coined by entrepreneur Kevin Ashton a., one of the founders of the Auto-ID Center at MIT. This PPT may have been first where the term Internet of Things was used, but the concept of connected devices – particularly connected machines – has been around for a long time. For example, machines have been communicating with each other since the first electric telegraphs were developed in the late 1830s.

Other technologies that fed into IoT were radio voice transmissions, wireless (Wi-Fi) technologies, and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software. Then in 1982, a modified Coke machine at Carnegie Mellon University became the first connected smart appliance.

Many industries use IoT to understand consumer needs in real time, become more responsive, improve machine and system quality on the fly, streamline operations and discover innovative ways to operate as part of their digital transformation efforts.

IoT unites data, analytics and marketing processes across locations. Retailers capture IoT data from in-store and digital channels and apply analytics.

Manufacturing

IoT connects all phases of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) process – from supply chain to delivery – for a cohesive view of production, process and product data.

Health Care

IoT the technology captures data streaming in real-time from the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) – such as wearables and other medical connected devices that monitor exercise, sleep, and other health habits.

Transportation and Logistics

IoT with geofence-enabled location intelligence and AI, deployed across the value chain can deliver greater efficiency and reliability for transportation and logistics companies.

Is Effective Communication Really Essential !

     Communication is the root of any relationship. The obvious advantage of clear communications is that people will easily understand your message. Your customers want to know how you can help them, but they don’t want to have to spend hours figuring out what you’re trying to tell them. Apart from the actual message, your words are communicating, you tell a lot about you and your business by how you present your business in writing. Good communications build your reputation, your credibility, and your relationship with customers, and all of these build your business. When it comes to trips like this, clear communication sets expectations creates a stronger team, and improves morale.



    Communication is essential for creating effective brand messaging. The way your business communicates with customers (through your website, blog, social media, marketing emails, ads or customer support channels) ultimately determines how they perceive your brand.

    Effective communication helps to unite teams, build a positive atmosphere in the workplace and encourage collaborative working, which leads to improved employee engagement, increased efficiency and productivity.



    Poor communication always results in misunderstandings and conflicts. Unresolved or poorly navigated conflicts can damage and even destroy relationships with customers, employees or co-workers.

   For example, Infosys chief mentor N R Narayana Murthy resigned from the chairmanship of Bangalore International Airport Ltd, anguished over the manner in which he was treated by the former PM.This also marks a turning point in private participation in public projects. Murthy's resignation comes four days after Gowda taunted him over Bangalore-centric issues.Gowda wanted to know why the international airport at Devanahalli was getting delayed in spite of Murthy heading BIAL; the IT czar, having travelled the world over, should have come up with a formula to decongest Bangalore. He also ridiculed Murthy's vision for urban reforms in Karnataka.Murthy's brief letter is full of anguish over Gowda's attitude and disappointment over Singh not coming to his rescue.

Future of cold chain

        When it comes to supply chain management, the pharmaceutical industry is characteristically conservative compared to other key industries such as automotive, aerospace & food service. This may be due to the fact that only the basic requirements for pharmaceutical distribution have been outlined in key guidance regulations. It has become clear that actionable cold chain logistics management is vitally important to preserving the efficacy of valuable cold chain- dependent medicines and for risk mitigation. Basic requirements outlined in drugs  National List of Essential Medicines (NLEM) are under the purview of the DPCO for traceability of equipment utilized in the manufacture and storage of drug substance and drug product must be implemented and utilized in the drug distribution space.



Impact of next-gen technology

Innovative technology is already making its way into space, through next-generation shippers and data management devices that not only report on chain of custody and chain of the condition but also have the ability to interact with a user. If we look at some of the reported capabilities of one of the new tech-centric logistics start-ups, Airspace Technologies, they outline system enhancements — some of which are not readily available in the pharma supply chain space. These include the following:

  • A digitally integrated, surface, and air expedited transportation network, designed for time-critical logistics.
  • Automated data analysis of the fastest origin/destination routings. Taking into consideration real-time traffic conditions and an estimated 25,000 daily domestic flights.
  • An internet-accessible “live” visual map interface, displaying continuous shipment status updates onboard vehicles and aircraft.
  • Geofencing capabilities to provide shipment proximity notifications to alert necessary personnel
AI enters the scene

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is also becoming more routine in supply chain management. Artificial intelligence can enable exceptional agility and precision in supply chains, regardless of the industry. 

Some of the applications of AI-based supply chain management include:

  • Machine learning-based algorithms that are the foundation of the next generation of logistics technologies, with the most significant gains being made with advanced resource scheduling systems.
  • Machine learning that shows the potential to reduce logistics costs by finding patterns in track-and-trace data captured using IoT-enabled sensors

Intelligent packaging

    Lastly, companies are developing intelligent packaging and software solutions that leverage some of the aforementioned next-generation technology to provide better transparency, security, and accountability during transit.

Report Writing- Step by step guide

What is a Report?

In academia there is some overlap between reports and essays, and the two words are sometimes used interchangeably, but reports are more likely to be needed for business, scientific and technical subjects, and in the workplace. Whereas an essay presents arguments and reasoning, a report concentrates on facts. Reports generally involve presenting your investigation and analysis of information or an issue, recommending actions and making proposals.There are many different types of reports, including business, scientific and research reports, but the basic steps for writing them are the same. These are outlined below.

Step 1: Decide on the 'Terms of reference'

·         What is it about? 

·         What exactly is needed?

·         Why is it needed?

Step 2: Decide on the procedure                                                                     

·         What information do I need?

·         Do I need to do any background reading?

·         What articles or documents do I need?

Step3: Find the information

                The next step is to find the information you need for your report. To do this you may need to read written material, observe people or activities, and/or talk to people.

Step 4: Decide the structure

Depending on the type of report, the structure can include:

·         A title page.

·         Executive summary.

·         Contents.

·         An introduction.

·         Terms of reference.

·         Procedure.

·         Findings.

·         Conclusions.

Step 5: Draft the first part of your report

Step 6: Analyse your understanding and draw conclusion

The conclusion is where you analyse your findings and interpret what you have found. To do this, read through your findings and ask yourself:

·         What's significant or important about my findings?

For example, your conclusion may describe how the information you collected explains why the situation occurred, what this means for the organisation, and what will happen if the situation continues

(NASSCOM) National Association of Software and Service Companies is a trade association of Indian Information Technology and Business Process Outsourcing companies. Established in 1988, NASSCOM is a non-profit organisation.

Recent activities of NASSCOM

It drives growth of the industry in international markets through a combination of policy interventions, market development programs and global partnerships. The India Market Development (IMD) initiative is a market maker for futuristic technologies & verticals in the country.

In a recent news, NASSCOM said that small and medium businesses (SMBs) in India can contribute 30 per cent of the cloud market by 2025.In a survey of 1,000 SMBs in India, NASSCOM found that 60 per cent are already using cloud, though almost half are at early stages of adoption, according to the report findings. In an effort to provide an opportunity for individuals to upgrade their emerging tech skills, including artificial intelligence, NASSCOM has launched a free course on artificial intelligence, in collaboration with the Union IT Ministry.


With a vision to improve artificial intelligence readiness among all individuals in the country, NASSCOM FutureSkills — an online learning platform for the IT industry — jointly with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), launched this initiative where is offering on-demand courseware, which would allow individuals to upgrade themselves till May 15th. The president of NASSCOM, stated that the deadly coronavirus has thrown up unprecedented challenges across the world and industries alike. 

                NASSCOM will set up a warehouse in port city Visakhapatnam under its 10,000 Startups initiative to nurture technology entrepreneurs with innovative ideas. The entrepreneurs will be mentored and funded by venture capitalists and other investors under the NASSCOM initiative.

 


SMART Goals - Guide for goal setting

Goals are part of every aspect of business/life and provide a sense of direction, motivation, a clear focus, and clarify importance. By setting goals for yourself, you are providing yourself with a target to aim for. A SMART goal is used to help guide goal setting. SMART is an acronym for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely. When you make goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound, you're increasing your odds for success by verifying that the goal is achievable, identifying the metrics that define success, and creating a roadmap to get to those metrics. Therefore, a SMART goal incorporates all of these criteria to help focus your efforts and increase the chances of achieving your goal.

If you ask most people what is their one major objective in life, they would probably give you a vague answer, such as, "I want to be successful, be happy, make a good living," and that is it. They are all wishes and none of them are clear goals.

How to Make a Smart Goal

1.       Use specific wording.

2.       Include measurable goals.

3.       Aim for realistically attainable goals.

4.       Pick relevant goals that relate to your business.

5.       Make goals time-bound by including timeframe and deadline information.

Common SMART Goal Mistake: Unattainable Goals

Yes. You should always aim to improve. But reaching for completely unattainable goals may knock you off track and make it harder to track progress. Rather than saying, "We want to make 10,000% of what we made in 2019," consider something more attainable, like, "We want to increase sales by 150% this year," or "We have a quarterly goal to reach a 20% year-over-year sales increase."

SMART Goal Example:

Facebook Video Views Goal

Specific: I want to boost our average views per native video by cutting our video content mix from 8 topics to our 5 most popular topics.

Measurable: A 25% increase is our goal.

Attainable: When we cut down our video content mix on Facebook from 10 topics to our 8 most popular topics six months ago, our average views per native video increased by 20%.

Relevant: By increasing average views per native video on Facebook, we'll boost our social media following and brand awareness, reaching more potential customers with our video content.

Time-Bound: In 6 months.

SMART Goal: In 6 months, we'll see a 25% increase in average video views per native video on Facebook by cutting our video content mix from 8 topics to our 5 most popular topics.

 

 

 


MY VISUME

             Hi! I am Veer Singh Saindhav from the heart of India, Madhya Pradesh. It is famous for cleanest city of India-Indore.

I am currently pursing Post graduate Diploma in Manufacturing Management from the Mecca of Supply Chain National Institute of Industrial Engg, Mumbai. Being passionate towards machines and mechanism, I have completed my Mechanical Engineering from SRM University, Chennai as the Gold Medallist of the batch. And was also awarded ‘Performance based Scholarship’ worth 50k for three consecutive academic years.

Coming to work experience, I have worked at DRDO in the Aircraft group, which is  responsible for planning, coordination of Balakot Strikes in Feb 2019.I handle two projects during my tenure. The first one was on the optimization of manifold problem where my task was to reduce the Flow inequality in the manifold and we were able to reduce the flow non uniformity ratio by 48%. The Second Project was the Design of Composite Console System. The lightweight design proved to be instrumental in reducing fuel cost since every kg saved onboard is proportional to fuel saved

As our final year project, we as a team of 4 members designed and developed a Low Cost Multi crop harvesting machine to cater the needs of small-scale farmers having 1-1.3 hectares of land particularly at hilly terrains. We were able to reduce the cost to 45k from 1 lakh which is nearly 50% reduction. I have also presented a paper as a co-author for the same project at National Conference held in 2018.

Besides this, I am a certified GREEN BELT in SIX-SIGMA from Synergy School of Business Skills.

Apart from academics, I have been an active participant in various workshops, cultural activities and other events throughout the college. Like, I supervised in installation of console inside the aircraft and we have organized a Quiz Competition Event in COMBUSTED 2k16,Tvaran2k17.

Post completion of my diploma I want to work primarily in the operations domain however I am also open for the SCM domain.

As far as my persona is concerned, I am dedicated, persistent and always enthusiastic about knowing people and their culture and natural beauty. Apart from this engaging in agricultural activities, reading novels, reading defence articles in free time-Security Scan RSTV.

Vehicle scrappage policy

 

The much-awaited vehicle scrappage policy is in its final stages of approval and will be rolled out within a month as per road transport and highways ministry.

The vehicle scrapping policy is very important for the revival of the auto industry. The scrappage policy is in its last stages of approval and it will come within a month or by month-end. The govt. is set to clear this policy with the approval of the highest authorities which can be a win-win for Indian manufacturers.


The vehicle scrappage policy is expected to entail scrapping of old vehicles in exchange for some incentives for consumers while setting up vehicle recycling clusters to boost use of recycled materials, thereby cutting cost of raw materials.
This will help to reduce carbon footprints as only BSIV compliant engines will run on roads of India in line with PUC rules and regulations.

The proposed policy is seen as a growth driver in boosting demand for new vehicles at a time when the economy is hit by weak consumer sentiment amid covid-19 led slowdown in the broader economy. The vehicle scrappage policy would focus on eliminating the fleet of old polluting commercial vehicles plying on the country’s roads. India has the potential to become a hub for automotive manufacturing globally in the next five years.

Appealing to the auto industry stakeholders to reduce import dependency, he said the government plans to increase import duties on certain imported parts in near future.

This is a good initaitive ogf the Indian Govt. to make India 'Aatmanirbhar' and one of the automotive manufacturing leader.

Do lean techniques compromises resilience of a Supply Chain in Crisis?

 

For the past 10 years, lean techniques like Just in Time(JIT), Heijunka, Kanban, Poka-Yoke etc. has undoubtedly increased supply chain efficiency as well as responsiveness with the introduction of robust information infrastructure and has further scope by digitization of supply chain networks. Adoption of these techniques has landmark effect on Indian economy as well as it increased overall supply chain surplus and profitability.



The lean techniques also posed a risk of less resilient supply chain and Covid19 pandemic has really brought it on its knee. Frequent and long-lasting lockdowns had almost put a full stop on distribution stage (either from supplier to manufacturer or manufacturer to retailer) as transportation was completely disrupted across the country. The unorganized sector which counts for almost 90% of employment in India was most hit as almost 120 million labors moving back to native putting shutters on mfg. sector. More or less all the 6 drivers of supply chain were compromised. This was about past once Covid19 Vaccine starts getting manufactured after its trial 3 phase,how India will respond to it is another critical question. India boasts itself as 3rd largest supplier of pharmaceuticals and will have a great responsibility ahead! Here are some solutions which can help to mitigate supply chain problems as per me. 


This all proves that redundancy is most important in such cases and also raises a question that do we need multiple level of intermediaries in a supply chain? Should the supply chain be decentralized with more warehouses in tier 2 & 3 cities of country? There should be proper trade off b/w Efficiency and Resilience is must since due to lean method the exposure to risk has been increased. Proper Risk Exposure model to know extent of potential risk associated with current techniques. There is need to optimize supply chain in b/w lean & conventional so that supply chain can be more resilient to shock. One must ensure that the Time to Service (TTS) > Time to Recover (TTR) for uninterrupted supply. Digital Twins of supply chain can be used for simulation to beforehand know what are the factors that will adversely affect the real supply chain

Business Communication - Consulting and Personal Branding

         Let's talk about a very enriching session on the importance of Business Communication in consulting and personal brand building by our former NITIE alumni  Mr. Nikhil Kulkarni. 

        A brief about him; Mr. Kulkarni is the owner of a start-up tripdarwin.com which is a holiday planning website This website lets you decide the place, type of activities and creates an itinerary in just minutes to get the extra mile on your holiday planning. He worked at KPMG for 10 years and later quit the job to give a shot to his entrepreneurial journey.


        As per him in consulting 80% is your communication and from rest 20%, 15% is relationship with the customer and only 5% is your research about the content.MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint are must for a consulting job at least for the first few years. Powerpoint is the most important tool for proposal making, report making, and Executive briefing as many are interested in fewer data, and PowerPoint appeals more to the customer in terms of communication.


The Pyramid Principle & MECE

We should follow the pyramid principle to design the content. We should know the objective, audience, context in which the content is consumed, and should be able to cover all aspects of the problem. This is done by MECE (Mutually Exclusive and Collectively Exhaustive) which means all content should be independent of each other and all points should be duly addressed.

Use a hierarchical structure to organize ideas and supporting evidence. The information must flow in a well-structured way with a Key Message(quote, video, etc.) followed by IDFL(Idea, Data, Fact, Logic)  and Summary so it reinforces the way the human mind understands anything.

Personal Branding

        A personal brand is something that builds credibility as an expert in the respective area. It introduces your personality without someone actually speaking about it. No. 7 Jersey in Cricket represents Mahendra Singh Dhoni.


 A personal brand is an important part of a person's career. You can get easy jobs, get things done whether it is tender or project based on your persona. The personal brand makes other people comfortable with you while working.

     He talked about his personal experience that how his blog writing helped him to get many assignments as clients really wanted to know him personally while working with him and how brands have evolved in the last 10-15 years to strive for success in the market.

        In a nutshell, it was a very good experience knowing how important business communication skills for any role and wish him all the best for his future endeavors.

Swadeshi Mandi-Inauguration

The 'Vocal for Local' campaign got a kickstart at God's Own Campus on 74th Independence day with the valuable presence of Chief Guest, Shri Abhay Jere, Chief Innovative Officer, Ministry of Education, GOI and Guest of Honour, NITIE alumnus Apeksha Haldia, Founder- Zaika Ka Tadka along with Prof. Manoj Tiwari, Director, NITIE. This was the 16th edition of MAHAMANDI with 100+ posters submitted by the  NITIANS to give 'Vocal' to the 'Local' Products.



Shri Abhey Gere reiterated the vision of honorable PM 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' can be only realized by Making Products in India for the rest of the world. He also explained the importance of Local Product/Service for the growth of a country. Pointing out some achievements of GOI such as India's is ranked 53rd in the Global Innovation Index as of Today in comparison with 81 in 2014. Also mentioned the need for Patents as Intellectual property of country and weaker position of India against its adversaries like China. Showing on faith on B - schools like NITIE he concluded that with the right vision and coordination of student-faculty and society India can reach truly become Atmanirbhar



Apeksha Haldia, Founder- Zaika Ka Tadka one of the alumni NITIE proud of, shared her experience back in the 2009 batch. She worked at P & G an FMCG company in America and was offered a good job profile in an MNC. Rejecting the offer she came back to India to start her own venture and become an entrepreneur. She shared the memories of MAHAMANDI 2007 selling toys to school kids for charity  Starting from her own kitchen with a vision to spread magic of 'Maa Ke Haath Ke Khaane ka Swaad' to every corner of the country. Zaika Ka Tadka has 400k+ subscribers on Youtube, where the various mouth-watering recipes are cooked and streamed online.The sapling of Entrepreneurship which was sown from NITIE has now become a deep-rooted tree.

    Have you ever wondered how a person can survive inside and clean sewerage for 2 hours which is 6-20 feet down the ground with no oxygen and no safety gears where one cannot stand for even a single minute? We can say that it's a part of his/her duty since they are born for this. Pan India about 2000 sewer workers died since 1993 which means one manual scavenging death every five days and in the last five years,376 have died while cleaning sewers and septic tanks. Rashtriya Garima Abhiyan study said that 94% of those who died were from groups Scheduled Castes, 4% were from Other Backwards Classes and the rest from Scheduled Tribes which is a perfect epitome of 'Jati Pratha aur Shram Vibhajan'.

    It's safer being a soldier fighting in Kashmir than a sewer worker! At least 110 have died in sewers in 2019 itself year as against 64 security personal killed in the line of duty. There are some questions that we should ask ourselves every time we read such news. Every soldier dying in the line of duty is a martyr, but sewer worker?  Did we see any betterment in life of sweepers after Swachh Bharat Yajna? Why sanitization workers are not provided with safety equipment no hand gloves, no gumboots, no masks, no safety belt?  As per a study, 80% of sanitization workers do not reach retirement age because of chronic diseases only because of a lack of safety equipment, information and training. It's like asking our soldiers to save the borders without armour, helmet, gun and most important intelligence inputs.

    A black hole is a cosmic body of extremely intense gravity from which even light can barely escape. More or less a manhole is an uncanny place on earth where a sewer worker once enters barely escapes. On average, this 'black hole' claims 100 lives every year. What basically happens inside the sewer is the organic matter in sewer upon decomposition forms gases such as Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S), Methane (CH4) & Carbone Monoxide (CO) as major gases. The Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) is a gas with rotten egg smell causes irritation in eyes and even blindness upon high exposure and can kill a man in a single inhale due to Asphyxia. The second reason is the lack of oxygen at such depths. The pattern of death is three dies in a row.

    Today, the daily wage of a sewer worker is Rs.250 which was Rs.100, 12 years ago, such a whopping increase I guess. Skilled labour wage in Delhi is Rs.622, on the contrary. In addition to this, since they are contract labours, they are not eligible for medical insurance and compensation after any mishappening. Lack of proper training, negligence on both sides, lack of awareness about do's & dont's and proper equipment are a few of the major reasons for these deaths. Although as per orders of honourable Supreme court of India under the 'Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act-2013'-manual scavenging banned in India means prohibits manual cleaning of toilet wastes, sewers, and septic tanks without safety gear and mechanised equipment. Municipal agencies have to provide equipment such as pumps at dangerous sites like clogged sewers. But contractors do not want to spend on the safety equipment. But how many contractors are prosecuted till date? 

    This brings us to rethink that do we really need an ambitious project like 'Bullet Train' worth 1.08 lakh crore? Or can we buy a sewer cleaning machine and safety gears for these sewer workers? Can we imagine India without this portion of society? Every citizen of India has equal rights to live and if we can at least give them what they deserve then we can really boast about the Statue of Unity which is a symbol of India's growth, prosperity, equality and unity.
